And the UDP issued a release calling for a commission of inquiry into, quote, "the smuggling of over 2000 Haitian nationals through Belize."

They also demand that the prime minister reveal the, quote, "true reason for the sudden removal of the Minister of State… Ramon "Monchi" Cervantes."

The UDP then poses several questions to the government, including whether immigration officials were complicit in the smuggling, and whether Cervantes knew of what the UDP calls a "crisis."

Today we asked Minister Courtenay about this.

Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs & Immigration

"I don't think that a commission of inquiry is needed, we are evidence as to what has happened and we are addressing it."

"There is absolutely no evidence in my possession or that I'm aware of that Minister Cervantes was involved in any smuggling. The reason he was removed from the Ministry of Immigration is a matter for the prime minister to answer to. But I am absolutely not aware of any evidence of smuggling that he may have been involved in."
