Yesterday, a new group called the Association of Defense Attorneys expressed concern over the fact that bail was denied to Tehje Vaughan, who was charged for manslaughter after killing her friend and coworker Charles Canton.

The Association says this was done, quote, "before the magistrate even asked or heard from the attorney for the accused."

The daughter of the accused is PUP City Councillor Albert Vaughan and when we spoke to him yesterday he said he was being realistic - and didn't want any appearance that politics was involved in the handling of his daughter's manslaughter charge.

But, a politician can't escape the past he's put on the record and when one of his fellow councillors was involved in a shootout some months ago - even though no one was seriously hurt - Vaughan lobbied hard for Micah Goodin's removal as Deputy Mayor. Now that Vaughan;' daughter is charged for an accidental fatal shooting - we asked him if he regrets those sweeping remarks made against councillor Goodin:

Jules Vasquez
"When one of your councillors was involved in a gun play activity, you took a very hard line, even having guns around this unnecessary sort of toying with guns and an example having to be set. Some people may throw it in your face now the comments you've made at the time when Micah Goodin was involved in a gun incident."

Albert Vaughan, Father of Accused
"But you see what is not straight in that Micah Gooding problem was not only the gun. Remember there were many other things that I came out and say no, not as a deputy mayor. You can't behave that way."

"But you are right. People like myself and the former deputy mayor and any person with that kind of responsibility has a right to speak out about guns. It's terrible. It's killing our people."

We'll let you know when an application is heard for Tehje Vaughan's Supreme court bail.
