A man who's been in jail for 5 years got out free today - after the prosecution said they could not proceed with the case.
23 year old Jordan Burns left the courtroom a free man today, when the charge of mruder was dropped against him.
The prosecutor was forced to enter a "nolle pros" because two main witnesses, both of them eyewitnesses, were not available. One of them is in the US and the other, who is in Belize, cannot be located.
Burns was accused of killing Carlton Moreira, a resident of Mayflower Street during the day on May 23, 2018. He and a friend were walking through an alley that connects Mayflower Street with Lakeview Street when they were accosted by a man who wanted money from Moreira's friend. Moreira intervened on his friend's behalf and he was shot twice in his head.
According to reports, Moreira's friend had won some money from boledo.
The Crown was represented by Crown Counsel Portia Ferguson.
Burns' attorney, Oscar Selgado, did not appear in court.
