And in other news, a 15-year-old special needs student is currently out of school after he was relentlessly and ruthlessly bullied. Cameron has been attending Wesley Upper School since Standard 4. He'd previously gone to Stella Maris, but his mother switched him over when he was 13. Now, he's 15, and he says he's being teased and assaulted everyday at school.
According to his mother, he kept saying he didn't want to go to school anymore, but wouldn't elaborate. It wasn't until three other students met her on the street after school last December and told her that her son was being bullied that she became aware of the situation.
She told us today that since then, she has gotten no assistance from the school's principal, and that even her son's teacher has made harmful comments about him. Here's her story.
And just like that, it's been four months since Cameron last went to school. Perez explained that in that time, the school has not tried to contact her, and when she last spoke with the principal over the phone, she was hung up on.
And it's hard for that mother to know her son is hurting, especially since he was supposed to graduate this year. Cameron told us himself what he's been going through.
Perez said that the Ministry of Education has periodically checked up on her situation. We reached out to the CEO who said that there isn't a complaint on file but that she is looking into the matter.
We reached out to the school late this afternoon, but our calls went unanswered. We'll follow up tomorrow.
