And while that shooting took place on Friday another happened just yesterday in Lucky Strike village when 36-year-old Kenroy Elijio was shot while standing in his front yard.

Luckily for Elijio there were officers in the area who heard the shots and quickly returned fire.

ACP Romero picked up the story from there, here's what he told the media at this afternoon's press briefing.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division
"On Sunday, around 12:40 a.m., police responded to a shooting incident at Victoria Street in Belize City. Upon their arrival, they found Kenroy Elijio, thirty-one years old with a gunshot injury to the arm. Information received from the area is that two persons came to a yard in that area in Victoria Street and they wanted to shoot at someone. At this point, a police officer who was in the area responded to the shots fired and began to fire shots towards the male persons who were firing. The two male persons made good their escape and thereafter, Kenroy Elijio was found with that gunshot injury to the elbow."

"Yes, we have identified one of the suspects and he is now in custody and will be charged. We have not established a clear motive. The information is that they came to that yard and wanted to shoot at someone."
