26-year-old Patrick Harris was in court to answer to a charge of murder, but his attorney Oscar Selgado, indicated that he wished to change his plea from not guilty of murder to guilty of manslaughter.

Justice Sandcroft then ordered a social inquiry report and a victim impact assessment statement and set July 3 for sentencing.

Harris' charge was for the death of Dillon Grinage who was shot and killed on December 31, 2016 in Sandhill Village. Before his guilty plea was accepted, Harris had to agree to the testimony of Oswald Ferguson, an eye witness, who testified that while four men were playing dominoes at the junction of the Old Northern Highway and Maskall Road, he saw when Harris shot Grinage. Harris also had to agree to an autopsy report by the doctor who did the post-mortem and after agreeing to it, the statement was tendered into evidence.
