The KHMH Workers Union today sent out a stinging release today scolding government for taking up a 90 million dollar loan from the Saudi fund to construct a 150 bed Tertiary Care Hospital in Belmopan.

First they say the KHMH currently has staff shortages which the Government has been unable to help them fill.

The release adds that KHMH and Regional Hospitals have been experiencing serious shortages of services including imaging, and many basic supplies and equipment that, quote, "are currently impacting the quality and quantity of the health services in our country."

With all these shortfalls, they ask, "Where will the technological and manpower required be found to man a new National Referral Hospital in Belmopan?"

They also ask, quote, "Is this being done to undermine the people's hospital which has been providing non- stop services despite the chronic shortage of both human and material resource?"

The three page release reminds the government of its manifesto pledge to bolster the KHMH and urges government to, quote, "Build and Expand on the foundation at the KHMHA and the other neglected Regional and Community Hospitals, before venturing out into building a second Tertiary Care Hospital."
