And so while the Commissioner is deflecting blame, the fact is all gun license issuances must go through his office. And, today he's said he is fed up with the burden of it.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

"There is nothing to hide, your director came to my office, I showed him everything, despite the reports that you all have gotten from some persons who may have personal gripings because they want certain things that no records are being kept for firearm license, it would be asinine of me to say to the police department, we're not going to keep records of license firearms, how are we then going to say to the court whether or not a firearm is licensed? We must keep records and as I showed your director, compared to when I became Commissioner, we had one computer keeping records, we now have 4 computers keeping records so if one computer goes down with the records, we still have it backed up on other computers. The system is so transparent, there is nothing there to hide."
"I can tell you now, what I will do going forward is that anybody who brings a gun license application to me, if that application is not for then, I am not going to auction it. If you want to apply for a gun license, you go and apply for it personally. Don't go through nobody, because I'm not going to accept nothing from no third parties because that is where the problem seems to lie."
"Like I've said to my minister, I am sick and tired of the nonsense. Being the license authority for firearm is not beneficial to me. It takes away from my work and so I've said to the minister, it is best you get a board to deal with it. And there's a number of firearm reforms that we're dealing with currently and hoping that's going to be a part of the reform. I don't want to headache to deal with it, give it someone else to deal with, I'm done with that."
