And in other crime news...

The body of a man believed to be 30-year-old Iran Jones was found this weekend near the village of Biscayne. That's after a week and a half of intensive searching by Jones's family and friends. He was last seen on June 13th.

Still, the cops have hesitated to confirm the fact even after the family says they identified the body and his clothing.

And whether that confirmation is just a formality, the cops say they aren't done investigating. We heard more on the search and discovery from ACP Hilberto Romero at this afternoon's press brief:

ACP Hilberto Romero, OC, Eastern Division

"On Saturday the 24th day of June, 2023 around 2:30 PM police responded to a report at Biscayne village upon the arrival they found human remains decomposed in a shallow grave, the remains have been removed from the area and are awaiting a post mortem examination. We have not established the identity as yet as that will be revealed after the post-mortem is conducted."

Cherisse Halsall:
"So it's not yet clear that this is Jones?"

ACP Hilberto Romero, OC, Eastern Division
"Not as yet, we have. To get confirmation from a doctor who will perform the autopsy then we will make a determination."

"There is an open investigation in regards to that disappearance and there were several searches done on the John Smith Road as well as other areas within the Belize district. So on Saturday that is what we discovered at Biscayne village."

Cherisse Halsall:
"Sir, the family says he was threatened in court where he is a witness in the murder of Shawn Menzies, any information about that?"

ACP Hilberto Romero, OC, Eastern Division
"I will not reveal that information, we are following several leads that we have and that is all I will say about that."

We reached out to Jones's family but they were not yet prepared to comment.
