As you heard earlier, the police can't guard every crime affiliated home that's under threat, and indeed policing in Belize City is becoming more and more complex and that's because the state is cooperating with gangsters in employment projects and finding alternative livelihoods, but when those gangsters flip the script and engage in criminal activity then it puts police in a quandary do they mediate or prosecute we asked the compol about that tension today.
Jules Vasquez
"So I'm saying, that how difficult is it for the police to tread a clear path when these are people that are cooperating with the state but you may have suspicion that they are involved in a capital offense."
Chester Williams
"Again Jules, the persons that we had detained for the Phozhawn Lewis murder while yes they are members of PIV and let me make it clear that while for the most part PIV and BLC are active members of LIU not everyone within those two groups are involved with LIU."
Jules Vasquez
"Meaning involved being paid by LIU?"
Chester Williams
"Being employed by LIU. So those two individuals that we had detained for Phozhawn murder, are not employed by LIU yes they are members of PIV but they are not employed by LIU. Likewise with Alex Underwood he is not employed by LIU, we classify membership of LIU as persons who are employed by LIU within their respective areas as you would know the programmes that we are running."
