He stabbed his American girlfriend to death and then dumped her in the garbage - but Leroy Lorenzo will only serve 17 years in jail for it.
On July 5th, the 32-year-old Leroy Lorenzo, pleaded down from murder to the lesser charge of manslaughter of 50-year-old nurse Wendi Dardano. He did this acting on the advice of his attorney Oscar Selgado.
He was sentenced today to 17 years in prison by Justice Aontonette Moore.
The murder charge against Lorenzo dates back to an incident that took place on November 30, 2019, in Hopkins Village, Stann Creek District. Lorenzo and Dardano had been drinking together before retiring to Dardano's residence on Petro Caribe Road. But they got into an argument that spiraled out of control, in which Lorenzo stabbed Dardano multiple times to the chest. He then allegedly hid her body in a blue garbage bin.
Lorenzo was detained later that day when he led a justice of the peace to the murder weapon.
The case was prosecuted by Javier Chan.
