A Stevedore is behind bars tonight after he allegedly tried to kiss a 12 year old girl in public. He is 34 year old Dwayne Sutherland. According to reports the incident occurred on Saturday August 12th, in front of several eyewitnesses. A report says he tried to kiss the child on her mouth.
Sutherland appeared in court this morning before the Chief Magistrate and was read a single charge of attempt to commit sexual assault.
Sutherland pleaded not guilty to the charge and was denied bail.
He claims that he is being wrongly accused and was out shopping with his common law wife when he walked by the child but did not touch her.
The police prosecutor pointed out in court that Sutherland has 3 other pending matters before the court and one conviction. He said that Sutherland was also granted bail on other matters before.
With that the Chief Magistrate informed Sutherland that he could make an application for bail consideration if he wishes. He was remanded to prison and is expected to appear back in court on October 17.
