On the evening of July 27th, 38 year old James Escarpeta was gunned down in the street. It came as a tipping point in an escalating gang war and it forced the government to activated a state of emergency the following day.

Now, police have charged the man who they say pulled the trigger. He is 32 year old Jason Mckenzie, a resident of Belama phase 5 for the crime of Murder.

He was arraigned in court this evening and remanded to prison.

Espcareta had a history of mental illness and was not active in gangs at the time of his death - he seemed to have been randomly targeted solely because he was from the George Street area.
