And while every patriotic Belizean looks forward to September, in other countries, their Independence or Carnivals are used to attract tourists, while ours is mainly marketed to locals. We asked Minister Fonseca if the government would consider changing this approach, but he said: "NOT READY YET":

"I certainly think it's a good suggestion, a good recommendation, we really have to do a lot of work at home, in house, and once we have put our house in order and we have the proper regulations in place, the proper policies and programs in place I think then we can start talking about exporting that product but we really have to refine and develop that product first, for ourselves before we can talk about exporting it to other countries."
