On Saturday, a Nigerian and Congolese were picked up at the PGIA by Immigration authorities after trying to board a Copa airlines flight with illegitimate Guatemalan passports.

The couple, 45 year old Olisah Ebere and 41 year old Doline Flore were enroute to the US seeking asylum when they were stopped on Saturday and questioned by the airport immigration.

After failing to provide legitimate proof of Guatemalan citizenship, the duo was arrested and charged for using illegitimate documents. Both pleaded guilty to the charges in court this afternoon and were fined $1000 each and were ordered to pay forthwith or face years imprisonment.

An internal investigation revealed that the couple was living in China after escaping their countries, and Doline Flore had acquired the passports through a Guatemalan national she met, and paid him $3,000 each for the passports. Ebere and Flore both begged the court not to deport them out of fear of returning to their countries.

They asked the court if they would assist them in applying for amnesty but the Immigration Department Prosecutor in court informed them that they did not qualify because they entered Belize illegally.

Nigerian Olisah Ebere told the court if he is sent back to Nigeria he will die, and if he goes to jail, he will die from hypertension.
