And while interdiction of criminals is one thing - the Ministry of Home Affairs is also involved in the prosecution of a criminal matter: that is the triple murder of Elmer Nah.

Normally, it would be a matter for the DPP, but she has recused herself from the case to prevent any appearance of a conflict of interest.

So, the government - through the AG's Ministry and the Ministry of Home Affairs - had to retain a special prosecutor, Jamaican Terrence Williams.

He is prosecuting Elmer Nah - after the Police Corporal got free from unlicensed ammunition charges last week.

Prosecuting the new year's eve triple murder is a huge case for government and the Belmopan community, but is the prosecutor being paid extra to secure a conviction? The Minister answered our questions today.

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs

"There is no bonus for it, but it is a phased payment like I mentioned. On the last occasion, I believe his retainer is US$15,000 and as the case progresses those payments will then come in, but there is no additional payment or incentive payment for a conviction. It is for him to carry out the prosecution of the case."

Jo-
"Your ministry has placed the highest priority on this prosecution. Are you concerned that because Nah has already gotten off from the ammunition charge that he may also get off for murder?"

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"Two completely different, unrelated cases the facts of the case, in terms of the Bladen, and landing the identifying of ammunition within the motor vehicle of Mr. Nah and his family on that particular night has absolutely no bearing on the facts and the evidence in the murder case that has been gathered so far so it would not be in anyway appropriate for me to come in and say that because of that this is going to happen with the murder case not at all and like I said previously, it is my understanding that, that case is going to be appealed because the evidence was proffered by the prosecution and the police that in fact, Mr. now was on vacation."
