When the decision against Jasmine Hartin was handed down at the end of May - she got a record 75,000 dollar fine for manslaughter by negligence. But the judgement was also notable because it was the first time we'd heard of someone sentenced to 300 hours of community service at the YMCA.
And, almost 6 months later Hartin still has not done that community service. Now, you might want to think she's just dipped out on it - considering she left the country days after the judgement.
But that's not quite right.
When we called the YMCA today to check why she hasn't done her service, Executive Director Clara Cuellar told us she quote, "has no knowledge of what" we're talking about and that she "knows nothing about the case."
So, what went wrong?
Well, it seems Justice Ricardo Sandcroft may have pulled that community service punishment from the sky - because it turns out - there's no system in place to make this happen at the Y. Plus, our information says the Y wasn't even consulted to see if they want one "J Hartin" on their roster of volunteers.
When we checked with Hartin she said and proved with emails that she has been trying to get into the Y to do that community service - but her requests have gone unanswered.
Hartin says she will ask the court if the order can be varied for her to do the service at the YWCA in Belmopan.
