It's the season for pumpkin pie and pumpkin spice, and on Wednesday we showed you where you could get your very own pumpkin - the kind you normally only see on TV.

Apparently, it's pretty popular in the Kings Park area, used for carving Jack-o-lanterns. And today, on a slightly slow news day, we decided to try our hand at it.

Courtney Menzies shows us what happened next:

Remember these pumpkins we showed you on Wednesday?

Well, we went back for one this morning and decided to see what all the hype was about.

After buying carving tools - and a quick YouTube tutorial - our very own Jomarie Lanza got to work, starting with scooping out the pulp.

"This was my first pumpkin I have ever carved, obviously, but I expected it to take maybe an hour, an hour and a half, and I realized that the longest part of the process is the scooping so once we got that out of the way, then we have to trace the face onto the pumpkin and then the carving part - the carving part was fairly straightforward, but I think the most challenging part of it was trying to get the stencil on and trying to make sure that the face and some of the figures are even."

"The cutting part, the only downside to it is that if you make a mistake, you can't erase, you can't go back or whatever so I was a little bit anxious when I started cutting but it came out pretty well."

"I think it would be a really great activity for parents to sit down and do with their kids, I think it teaches them how to be precise and how to pay keen attention to when you're using tools and stuff so once you have a parent to guide you, once you're supervising your kids, I think it would be a really great activity for a family to do maybe like on a Saturday or Sunday just for Halloween."

"I am going to name this pumpkin Portico, Portico the Pumpkin."

But now what happens with the insides of the pumpkin? Don't worry - that won't go to waste.

Jomarie Lanza, 7News Journalist/Pumpkin Carver
"I took Home Ec in high school and my specialty was this pumpkin pie, pumpkin pudding that we used to make, but I used local pumpkin to do it so I'm not sure how exactly it's going to taste with all the debris and remaining stuff I scooped out of the pumpkin so we'll see how it tastes, we'll see how it goes."

And if you want to give pumpkin carving a shot, you can visit Cesar's Fruit and Vegetable Shop on Baymen Avenue.

Jomarie's creation took her about 40 minutes to complete.
