And while that unlicensed pistol is off the streets - reports tell us that more guns - but licensed ones, may be making their way into the hands of gun owners in the next few weeks.
That's because - with the change in the gun licensing regime - reports say there has been a rush to get the last gun licenses approved by Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams.
Though the minister has said there is a moratorium until the new firearms and ammunition control board takes over - our reports say it's more like a mad rush - with applications - made as recently as yesterday - streaming into the commissioner's office.
But, the directive did finally go out today to regional commanders, it is titled, "Revocation of Authority to approve Farmer's Gun License", and states, "In view of the new changes in law as it relates to gun license, absolutely no Farmers gun license should be approved by any Formation Commander. Your authority to approve such license has been REVOKED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT. All applications receives shall be forwarded to the Commissioner of Police Office for onward transmission to the Firearm License Board."
