But this week's proceedings didn't all go in the DPP's favor. Yesterday, a murder case was dropped after the counsel from her office did not show up. Shawn Hertular was accused of murdering 49-year-old Miguel Zaiden back in 2021. And though Hertular was arrested and charged, he's a free man tonight. Today the media asked the DPP what happened in court.

"Sometime ago, that file was assigned to a paritcular counsel and that counsel did not show up to work or to court yesterday and that matter will be dealt with, I don't want to speak any further on it."
Reporter:
"But the murder charge, that has been dismissed, right?"

"That was the indication from the Marshall yes."
Reporter:
"He's basically a free man."
Cheryl Lynn Vidal, DPP
"At the moment, yes."
Reporter:
"Can he be charged with the same crime again?"
Cheryl Lynn Vidal, DPP
"We will make a determination as to how we will be moving forward with the matter."
