They say if you do the crime, then you should expect to do the time. But, there's a little-known corollary to that: sometimes, if you're lucky you get away with only paying a fine.

And so it was for San Pedro Resident 47 year old Stephen Savery.

He was busted on Tuesday in the San Mateo Area by the GI3 with two pounds of weed in his home.

Savery appeared in the magistrates court this morning unrepresented and wasted no time when he pleaded guilty to trafficking.

Due to his previous convictions for drugs in 2014 and 2016 Savery could have faced up to 3 years imprisonment. But instead the magistrate spared him and fined him $10,000 dollars which he must pay by March 31st 2025.

As he bounced out of court a free man, he said he'll take a fine over being confined any day:
