
25 year old Tehje Vaughan, daughter of City Administrator, Albert Vaughan, pleaded guilty to manslaughter by negligence after she accidentally shot and killed her friend back in May 2023. 30 year old Charles Canton was sitting in a car with Vaughan and another person when he was shot in his head with his own 9mm pistol. Vaughan told police it was the first time she had held a gun, and the shooting was accidental.
Vaughan as indicated by her attorney, Leeroy Banner in court, had expressed the need to plea guilty from the onset of the incident and she cooperated with the police investigation.. Leeroy Banner told the court, "This is an unfortunate incident for both families, the decease and Vaughan as they were close friends and co-worker working together at a leading Credit Union, Holy Redeemer Credit Union.
Banner told the court that Vaughan was unfamiliar with the mechanism of a firearm, buy today takes full responsibility for her action.
The judge fined Vaughan $15,000 - $5,000 of which is to be paid to Canton's common-law wife by 4:30 tomorrow evening. The other $10,000 is to be paid by the end of September 2024. Vaughan was also bound over to keep the peace for a period of 2 years in default 12 months imprisonment.
