Wildfires in the south have ravaged hundreds of farms, leaving many villagers without their main source of income, and the produce that would have fed their families. Today spokesperson for the Maya Leaders Alliance, Cristina Coc, said that they are working on aid to assist these families for the next few months.

"With regards to the wildfires, clearly you've seen the devastation, a lot of our communities have been impacted, we are in the process of completing our assessment of that damage, our focus is on relief and recovery and ensuring that for the next 3-4 months, those who have lost their corn and their milpas will have food, traditional food that other communities will provide through the aid as we are organizing to provide that relief and recovery."
