And while government may still be able to make the right decision there - they can do nothing to help the Mennonites who allegedly paid 5 million dollars to a bogus land dealer.
And, reports say, they were all taken in by a bogus mobile land clinic set up in Shipyard. The Minister said it's one of the craziest stories he's ever heard.:
Jules Vasquez
"In that case, was there, as we have heard, an entire false land clinic set up in Shipyard with computers, persons wearing Ministry of Natural Resources shirts like a land clinic."
Cordel Hyde, Minister of Natural Resources
"I've heard about that. I've not seen the pictures, but we've had so many land clinics in the north and everybody across this country knows what our land clinic looks like."
Jules Vasquez
"But these people had desks, computers, agents with....(but not a Cordel Hyde)."
Cordel Hyde, Minister of Natural Resources "Yeah, yeah, we weren't there. We heard about it after the fact, you know."
"But that's a, mein, that's a, that's a developing story, that's a crazy story, that's a, I don't know where that's going to end up, but we are cooperating with the authorities. And I'm trying to be as helpful as we possibly can."
Jules Vasquez
"Did Natural Resources receive any of that money to complete land transactions for these Mennonites who believe they were legitimately acquiring land?"
Cordel Hyde, Minister of Natural Resources
"No, no. There's no record of any payments being made. Is that a....mein, that's the most craziest thing I've heard. When you really listen to what they say alleged happened. But I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Like I say, you have to guard your money jealously, you have to treat it like your wife and your husband. You don't let it out your eyesight. And you don't be getting off your money to fake agents, and all kinds of crazy situations. Like who does that? Like, like, like who does that? I mean, if someone brings a scheme to you and it sounds too good to be true, then it's not true. It's not true. And you better keep the money in your pocket."
