This morning at 11:30, a dead man was found floating near the seawall on Front Street, Punta Gorda.
Police pulled the body out of the water and identified the deceased as 44-year-old Jennison Vernon, who townspeople tell us is mentally ill. Several cut wounds were observed to his body and now police are seeking a person of interest in connection to what they believe is a murder. No suspects have yet been detained.
