Tonight, Cayo police are trying to find the gunman who killed a 60 year old Belizean real estate agent. The crime follows no known pattern - it was carried out like a hit - but no one knows why anyone would want Ulric Willoughby dead. Jules Vasquez has the story:

60 year old Ulric Willoughby and his wife were here at his home last night in the secluded Vanilla Hill area of Bullet Tree when a killer came calling:

ASP Stacy Smith, Police Press Officer
"Initial investigation revealed that approximately 7:30 pm, Willoughby was in the living room of the residence when an individual fired three shots from the veranda into the living room which resulted in the fatal injuries of Willoughby."

"Willoughby is not known to be engaged in any criminal activities and the investigation into this matter continues."

Reporter
"Any suspects?"

ASP Stacy Smith, Police Press Officer
"No suspect has been identified so far."

There was no robbery or theft - and police could not say if he had been receiving threats. But whoever wanted to kill him was deliberate in his actions:

ASP Stacy Smith, Police Press Officer
"Indeed the location where the incident happened is not a heavily occupied area because he doesn't have any immediate neighbors."

But what would lead a gunman to the isolated home of an elderly law abiding citizen on a Sunday night?

Jules Vasquez
"We note that he's a real estate and we know that a real estate had been executed some months ago in Placencia. Might he have been targeted because of his profession?"

ASP Stacy Smith, Police Press Officer
"There is no information at this time to suggest that there is a nexus between the 2 incidents."

One thing police are looking at is this incident back in 2011 when Willoughby's business was burglarized, and he shot and killed one of the intruders. The DPP found that it was a justifiable use of force and no charges were brought.

Willoughby's family in Unitedville declined comment.
