On Friday, we told you about the Sargassum situation affecting the region - a growing concern for tourists. But, it's also a major annoyance for the town residents - because the decaying sargassum stinks up the whole town. The area rep conceded as much:
Andre Perez, Belize Rural South Area Rep.

"I live in San Pedro and of course Caye Caulker. Sometime it extends across the shoreline as much as 40-50 feet and its horrible."

"San Pedro, the Sargassum that's being collected, it's being used for landfill to be turned into a public recreational area, but some residents are complaining about the smell."
Andre Perez, Belize Rural South Area Rep.
"Good point, because after some days the Sargassum ferments and it releases these bad gasses and smell as well. But in terms of the smell, it's everywhere, it's not only where they are right now. You walk across - in fact San Pedro doesn't have a beach. It's across with everything in Sargassum."
