And while police continue to search for leads, A family is left to grieve their precious matriarch. We spoke to Requena's grandson via phone this afternoon. He says that his grandmother was on her way home from church when she was knocked down less than 2 blocks away:

"She was walking back from her usual hours of church about 8:30 she usually stays to chit chat with her church friends and that is where she was about to turn into the lane where we live when it occurred."
"I was actually walking over to visit my grand parents after buying dinner and I was just reaching the top of the hill because their lane is at the top of the hill when I saw the people forming and rushing in the middle of the road and I was in shock and I though oh my goodness someone got injured so I was already turning into my lane to go tell my grandparents when somebody had told me that he it is your grandma, my friend told me hey it's your grandma and that was when the shock had set in. And everyone who was forming around her the crowd was saying that what they had witnessed was a white taxi just basically ramming into her and then driving away."
"I was just like there trying to speak to her."

"And was she responsive?"

"She was moving and she was trying her best to get up but no audio, she was not speaking but you can tell she was trying to get herself up but we were encouraging her not to incase of further injuries."
And by the time they got Requena to the hospital there wasn't much doctors could do for her due to the significant head trauma she sustained. The family says they are still in shock, and hope that the person who hit her will come forward.

"It's a nightmare it really is because it is one thing to lose a family member, death knocks on every family's door at some point, it is something that had never made it's way present into my family so you know it was one thing to lose her but the second thing is to lose her the way that we did it was like, it was like a horror film and it was the worst thing that could possibly happen to us happened to us because at-least when you lose a family member to illness or old age you have that moment to make preparations and say goodbye, but she was so youthful for her age and is joyous she was always had a smile on her face and I know everybody says that about their family members but she really did. She was the one who held the family together so its like the heart of our family basically left us."
"We really think she didn't deserve it and was the kindest and most selfless person she truly was like an angel in our town and it shows with the amount of people who have been pouring in and out of our house she had so much communities in Benque and outside of Benque that loved her so it is not something that is right and we would want the person to have a conscience and do the right thing."
The family is Asking anyone with surveillance video to please come forward.
