More on that later from the Director General of Tax Services. But, back to the Munnings case - today the Director outlined the proposed compromise to get Munnings out of jail today:
Michelle Longsworth, Director General - BTS

"So it's very sad that we have to reach this. This is not something that is easy to do. But we are guided by the law. We are guided by the actions that we must take to ensure that everyone contributes their fair share."
Jules Vasquez
"But now he's in jail for the next six weeks on his business is inoperable. How does this bring him closer to satisfying his debt and paying the tax services?"
Michelle Longsworth, Director General - BTS
"And that is a fair question. And that's why presently, we are doing our best. I'm looking at the case to ensure, to see what it is. I have to reach out to the magistrate court, because at the end of the day, if Mr. Munnings makes a commitment now to continue on with his payments on a regular basis, we, the tax Department, are willing to accept that."
"So that is something we have to put before the court. I believe our legal team has already prepared such a submission for the magistrate, and we will be submitting that. So if he comes forward and pays. We will see what he can offer to pay now. We are willing to accept that, but with a commitment that he will stick to his monthly payment of 2,000, I believe a month that the court has has ordered."
Jules Vasquez
"So then, the Tax Services is willing to consider a renewed commitment from him once he maintains the existing."
Michelle Longsworth, Director General - BTS
"Correct. And we would do that today. So he comes out today."
Today in court, attorney OJ Elrington nearly lost it when the Belize Tax Service prosecutor changed their position in court and said they were requesting for 25% of the 50% of fhe sum owing. That forced a recess and upon return, the Belize Tax Services accepted the old agreement and said his superior acknowledged they can accept a $2,000 dollar payment today.
