Chris Coye was the last Minister of State to take his oath of office, and, reports say, he will be the first to leave. 7News has received credible reports that Coye will leave office at the end of this month. We asked him via text message to confirm today and he did not deny it. He told us, quote, "I am extremely grateful to our Prime Minister for enabling me to meaningfully participate with him and Cabinet in directing our beloved country along a newly forged path of economic transformation. It has been a true honour and a privilege to serve Prime Minister and the people of Belize."
So, we take that to mean he leaves his Minister of State post at the end of this month after less than 7 months of a 5 year term in office. Coye follows his law partner Eamon Courtenay who left his ministerial post in 2023 to return to his law practice. It is unclear if he will remain a Senator as Courtenay has.
