He cried in court and he laughed when came outside - tonight a Dollar Van driver is free after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 14 year old female passenger. It happened on Saturday when the minor jumped into the Dollar Van on Cemetery Road to go home.
The driver, Wenseslao Garrido-Veilz who wears a distinctive blonde mohawk dropped off all the other passengers and allegedly took the girl down a feeder road between miles two and three on the George Price Highway where he touched her inappropriately on the leg while inside the van.
A medical examination certified her injuries as harm.
Today Garrido-Veilz was taken to court where he cried like a baby he heard he was getting bail for the sexual assault of a minor. The 43 year old - who is Guatemalan by birth with permanent residency in Belize - pleaded not guilty to sexual assault of minor. He cried out loud in court when he heard he was being granted bail after hearing heavy objections to bail by the Police Prosecutor who said he is a flight risk and is likely to abscond whilst out on bail. As he cried out, Garrido-Veilz - who had been granted a translator - told the sitting Senior Magistrate in kriol, "I neva touch dah young lady...".
Garrido-Veilz told the court that he is not a flight risk because he had three sons all who are Belizeans and a wife and mother to care for.
Garrido-Veilz met bail of $5,000 dollars. He came outside court all smiles and hugs after meeting bail.
