Earlier in the news we told you about the murder of "Pie Bwai" - but there was also a second murder in the city. On Saturday night, 41 year old Earl Archer was gunned down close to his home, leaving 4 kids without a father. But Archer wasn't in the gang life, and according to his brother, he was their protector. So who would want to kill him?
Courtney Menzies has this story.
41 year old Earl Archer was supposed to register his 5 month old son today, but he never got the chance since he was murdered just before 11 on Saturday night.
Archer wasn't far from his Raccoon Street Extension home when he was targeted by a gunman. And since he had no history with gangs, the police have not figured out a motive as yet.
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer

"The investigation commenced when officers that were on patrol in the General area heard several shots being fired, and upon establishing the scene of that shooting incident, they observed a male person who was later identified to be Archer, with apparent gunshot wounds to the body. Archer was ferried to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to the injuries he sustained. The scene was processed by scenes of crime personnel, and the area was canvassed for possible witnesses. Police have not established a motive in this incident, and Archer, though known to police, has not been linked to any gang activity. Police investigation continues."
And according to his brother - who asked to appear off camera, it wasn't long after Archer walked out of his yard that the gunshots were fired.
Voice of: Kenrick Archer, Brother of Deceased
"He left out the yard, everything was good, left my mom, my family, and he went out to maybe we can't say what exactly he went out for but he was near my cousin's area and everything and unfortunately when my mom heard the gunshots the last thing she would think was that it was her son."
Jules Vasquez:
"So you all heard the gunshots that night?"
Kenrick Archer, Brother of Deceased
"Yeah, my mom heard it, I wasn't around but my mom heard it, it was a stone's throw away. And it's crazy. Like I said, I don't want this to be a census for my brother because we don't know what he's doing out there, he's not perfect, but he's trying his upmost best to be as productive as possible."
"Whenever I go anywhere, my brother would reach out and say, Kenrick, don't go in certain areas. He knows that I don't have any enemies, no problems with anyone, but of course being the big brother, he will be the protector no matter what."
And the family is hoping someone will come to his aid now - hopefully with surveillance footage or as witnesses.
Kenrick Archer, Brother of Deceased
"The area where it took place, cameras are about and unfortunately, people are scared, they say the camera wasn't working but it's up to them to want to help. But all I'm saying to those who did it, we're not crying, it's another bad news to any family who experienced it, it's the first time I experienced something as immediate. We're not gaining, as black people, as living on the southside, the only person who is benefitting is the funeral homes."
"He had his only son, his son is 5 months and unfortunately again, another mother grieving with kids, not having a stable father, father son to actually deal with."
"All I want to do is just, if you're celebrating, whatever area, whatever block, whatever person, if you're celebrating, kudos to you."
Apart from his son, Archer had 3 other daughters.
