And in other news, the memorial park was laid out like a biker bar on Sunday - but there were no drinks being served. Dozens of bikers gathered in the park to meet with the CEO in the Ministry of Transport, Chester Williams. 7News was there:

With this much horsepower and steel lined up outside - CEO of Transport Chester Williams might have expected the warm time he had at this meeting on Sunday morning.

The CEO was unaccompanied; he sat alone at a table as the motorcycle owners, mostly members of motorcycle clubs in full gear, peppered him with question after question.

Luigi Guttierez, Cycling Club President
"I'm very happy that he came out, but at the same time, you know, I feel that we didn't really get to solve some of the situations and questions. He had the courtesy of answerng the questions to the best of his ability, but I believe that at the end the questions was asked and what we were looking for is maybe finding a way if they could extend a period of time for them to pass this bill."

"But I think he gave us a blunt answer, which is a definite no. So I am maybe questioning myself then why was even this meeting necessary, to be honest."

Jules Vasquez
"You had a warm time - you mi come ya and you think you could dance they man, you couldn't dance them man."

Chester Williams, CEO - Transport
"I don't understand Jules. I have never been a dancer, so I will never try to dance nobody."

"At the end of the day, I believe that the people in the cycling clubs and anybody who is a rider of motorcycle in this country had a right to be informed as to what we're doing, with the implementation of the new laws."

Jules Vasquez
"But what these guys are saying, they thought they came to a consultation, but they found that you had no flexibility on the central issues."

Chester Williams, CEO - Transport

"We have made some adjustments, yes. In life, things are about compromise you know."

"And we believe that when we say that persons who have been riding for five or more years with an unblemished record will not have to undergo the complete 30 hours training, that's a compromise."

Jules Vasquez
"They feel they should have been consulted before legislation was proposed."

Chester Williams, CEO - Transport
"I wouldn't say that. At the end of the day, the government job is to legislate, to make laws for the good order and governance of the country. We see a crisis on our highways. For far too long, the government have sat back and did nothing while our young people are dying on rural highways."

"We see that there's a need for us to act, and so we're acting. And whatever is being done or what has been proposed, it's not because we want to make the lives of motorcycle riders miserable, or we want to make sure that our motorcycle riders are much more safer."

The bikers have not indicated what their next plan of action is.
