There was a murder in Orange Walk Town on Saturday night - and the victim is the brother of the Prime Minister's driver. Beres Anglin had been charged hours earlier for a drug related offence hours before he was killed.
That happened at 10:30 - but he wasn't-fun until 12:30 am on Sunday morning when his common law wife arrived at home to find him dead. She spoke to our colleagues today about what had happened. Jomarie Lanza has the story.
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer

"Investigators attached to the Orange walk police formation are investigating the shooting death of 45 year old Beris Anglin which occurred on Saturday 6th December 2025 in Orange Walk town. This ongoing investigation commenced on 7th of December at approximately 12:30 Am when the common law wife of Anglin reported to police that upon her arrival at their residence she encountered the motionless body of Anglin inside that home with apparent gunshot wounds to the body. Police have since detained one person of interest in relation to this ongoing investigation."
Williams' common law wife thought he was sleeping when she arrived home and called out for him outside the house but got no response. She told our colleagues at CTV3 that she figured out what had happened after looking through one of the windows at the front.
Valerie Williams, Relative of Deceased
"I had gone to work and then when I came home I was calling him and he did not answer me so I saw the window open and when I went by the window I saw him laying down on the ground but I did not know the back door, I have 2 doors, I didn't know it was open and when I jumped the gate and went in I touched him like this and I said he is dead. I just came out back and I told my friends, they didn't leave as yet because they dropped me home, they were outside on the street and I called them and said please call the police. My guy is dead in the room and I didn't go back inside. I went to the neighbors. There is a guy that lives there and I told him, I knocked on his door and I told him, we call him seco im not sure what's his name, I told him that my guy is in the room dead. And I asked him if hear heard anything and he said yes he got shot in his foot."
Williams says when she asked her neighbor why he didn't call police, he got up and left, and she believes he did so out of fear. But according to her, Anglin had to have known his killer because the back door of their home was still open when she arrived.

Valerie Williams, Relative of Deceased
"When I went by the window and I saw 2 gunshots on the window, I basically thought it came in from the window, because he fell, I found him by the bed on his side, by the bed so I said maybe he was trying to come out, but what is puzzling me is that when I leave he usually brings in the dogs, our 2 dogs sleep inside so usually when I go anywhere he brings in the dogs and then he would lock the doors, but what Is puzzling to me is I didn't know the doors were still open because he usually locks the doors."
Reporter-
"So you think he opened it for someone?"
Valerie Williams, Relative of Deceased
"Yes I think so, and the dogs may know the person because my dogs are terrible."
Because of a back injury Anglin was unable to work and began to sell drugs from their home. She says that chances are the business made him someone's target.
Valerie Williams, Relative of Deceased
"I won't lie he sold his weed and so, but because he can't work and I would sometimes go out and do jobs and stuff that was how we lived right now, but if he didn't have he didn't have so sometimes he would say why don't you leave me and I would tell him no."
Reporter-
"Could this have been related to the business that he was in?"
Valerie Williams, Relative of Deceased
"Yes I think, I think it's that. Maybe he owed someone because he wouldn't tell me his problems or anything but maybe he owed someone and that's why they came and did this to him."
Police had just charged him hours before:
Jo-
"Is Mr Anglin known to police?"
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer
"Yes Mr Anglin is known to police as a matter of fact he was charged just a few hours prior for a drug related offense he was given station bail and was to go before the magistrate court today."
Jo-
"Do police believe these 2 things are connected or have any correlation in the case?"
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer
"There is no motive so far that has been established, the person of interest has been detained. Interviews will be conducted on him to see how it advances this investigation."
Reporter
"The person detained, do police know if he is a friend of the deceased?"
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer
"I believe that is the indication."
Police have detained 2 persons so far. They found 14 expended shells at the scene.
We note that in 2008, Anglin was charged for the murder of his father. He was remanded but not convicted.
