He was first indicted on three counts of Unlawful Sexual Intercourse with a 14 year old minor in September of 2025. Nelson Canul who was 22 at the time had begun dating the minor, with the parents knowledge of the relationship. But then he began to engage in sexual relations with her and she got pregnant. That led to today, where Canul appeared in court, and, by agreement he entered into a plea agreement for the purpose of keeping the family together. The crown and defense also agreed to a sentencing recommendation for Canul which includes that he be placed on probation for a term of three years with community service.
Justice Nigel Pilgrim accepted Canul's guilty plea but he told the parties that he will decide Canul's fate next week Monday.
