An hour ago, the Commissioner of Police told us that they were monitoring a suspected drug plane near the Belize and Guatemala border tonight. And latest reports this evening say that a drug plane with suspected cocaine has landed in northern Belize in the area of Neuland, Orange Walk. We are awaiting confirmation but initial reports say a Joint operation was conducted by security forces, including the Coast Guard, BDF, and police. We are awaiting confirmation on whether any drug cargo was intercepted.

And we know the area is active because of what happened earlier today. 7News received information that customs enforcement was on patrol in the area of Bomba this morning - where contraband is known to move. That's when they came upon a suspicious person who started to run. Police pursued, leading them to a seafront landing area where a Chevy Tahoe SUV was found loaded up with 9 canisters of aviation fuel.

Police were called in - they detained the men - and set the vehicle on fire to destroy the fuel. Police believe that the fuel was there to possibly service a drug plane set to land.

A 9 millimeter pistol was also found in the area.
