Internal checks are still being made at the Belize City Immigration Office to determine the scale of fraud carried out by at least one cashier in the Nationality and Passport section.
7News has received reports that between early 2025 and April of 2026, as many as 800 transactions averaging about $200.00 dollars each were not recorded due to receipt reversals. That's $160,000 dollars possibly embezzled within just a limited time frame.
Reports suggest that the total receipt reversals between just February of this year and the end of April total $81,000 thosuand dollars.
So far no criminal charges have been brought but one supervisor is on administrative leave. We'll keep following the story.
