Tonight, a family in Cotton Tree is calling for the Police Department to take accountability for what they call aggression employed when attempting to arrest Jessy Hyde over the weekend. The video went viral on Saturday and Jaleeza Roberts got more from the family:
This is the video that went viral on social media over the weekend, showing a physical dispute between police and civilians in Cotton Tree Village. The police and a social worker were trying to detain Jessie Hyde for cyberbullying. But her mother wasn't having it; she held her ground and fiercely defended her daughter in a squalid struggle.
Here's how that went:
And it happened after Jessy Hyde was reportedly wanted for several cybercrimes. But the aunt whose home it happened inside and then in front of explains what transpired:
Susanna Velasquez, Aunt of Victim
"The only thing I could say is when I look, I see my niece run come to my house, right, and right after that the police, they surrounded my house. Well, they asked me if the little girl was there, I told them yes because I can't hide her, and I couldn't what you call it, so I responded back, yes."

"My children asked them for a search warrant, they told us yes, they have one, but so far they haven't responded nothing to us. So, one of the police officers just walked in and she went, because my niece ran into my daughter's room, and he went straight inside, and I told him yes, the little girl is here, and he took her out and then she come out, and that's where all of them surrounded the little girl, and the lady that was with them, I know her as a social worker, and when I called her mom, I told her that are abusing your daughter."
This is the result of ongoing personal disputes, but the aunt says that nevertheless they should not have treated her like an animal:
Susanna Velasquez, Aunt of Victim
"We tell a run because it's really hard to see how they're dragging her like an animal on the street."
"I think she is threatened, that is my opinion. I think she's getting too much bully and too much things she is going through to be so young, and I don't think it's fair to what they are doing to her because we are all human, we all one family, and we all have children. And I will be honest, I wouldn't want nobody to do my children that, just like what her mom said, that she thinks they are taking advantage of her daughter."
"They never should have dragged her like that, they never should have treated her how they treated her."

We did ask police to address it today in their weekly press briefing-but they did not. We do know that there have been multiple ongoing issues between Jessy Hyde and police both in Hopkins and Cotton Tree.
