
Tonight, an aspiring Corozal PUP Town Council candidate is in police lockdown after he allegedly threatened and assaulted his common-law wife following a trip to Chetumal, Mexico, on Sunday night.
Tommy Zetina is in custody pending investigation for "threatening words" and "harm."
Police say his 28-year-old partner, Iris Gonzalez, reported that she, Zetina, and her cousin had spent the day in Chetumal. According to Gonzalez, Zetina had been drinking throughout the day and became increasingly aggressive toward them.
She told investigators that at around 9:10 p.m., while passing the Mexican immigration building, Zetina accelerated the vehicle and allegedly threatened the occupants, saying, "I will kill unu and I no fraid fi dead." Fearing for their lives, Gonzalez said she attempted to calm him as they traveled toward the Belize border.
Police say the vehicle eventually stopped in the parking lot of Princess Vegas, where the cousin exited and sought help. Iris Gonzalez alleges that while she remained inside the vehicle, Zetina told her, "The next time I wah kill you," leaving her in fear for her life. Security personnel and a police officer responded to the scene, and all parties were escorted to the Northern Border Substation as investigations continue.
