Police Constables Salomen Cowo and Esmin Flores, who are charged with the March 2023 murder of Dyandre Chee, have presented their defence before Justice Morgan in the Orange Walk High Court. The prosecution has closed its case, and both officers gave dock statements before the matter was adjourned until September.

Flores, represented by attorney Richard "Dickie" Bradley, told the court he was on mobile patrol when officers were dispatched to intercept motorcyclists allegedly speeding through Orange Walk Town. He said police heard what sounded like gunshots during the pursuit and, after overtaking one of the motorcycles, another shot was heard before the two riders fell to the ground. Chee was later found with a fatal gunshot wound to the back. Bradley argued that the evidence raises questions about how Chee could have been shot in the back if another person had been seated behind him on the motorcycle. Cowo's defence was similar. The trial resumes in September.
