Jimmy Rojas has been charged with two counts of damage to property after police say he was caught on surveillance footage vandalizing several police surveillance cameras in Belize City. According to police, during a routine inspection of the Belize Police Department's camera system on Monday, August 3, Police Constable Angel Baeza of the Public Safety Monitoring Unit discovered that four surveillance cameras at the corner of Croton Lane and Tibruce Street and three cameras at the corner of Flamboyant and Lavender Street were not functioning. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage, which allegedly showed Rojas climbing the camera poles during the early hours of Saturday, August 1, and using a knife to break them. He wore a hood and a mask while doing it. Rojas was detained yesterday and has since been formally charged with two counts of damage to property. He pleaded not guilty to the damage to property but he was previously involved in a burglary of a school which caused the bail to be revoked. He has since been remanded to the Belize Central Prison and will return to court on September 14.
