Five young persons from throughout the country have been selected to travel to Jamaica to take partake in this year's Commonwealth Youth Exchange. The purpose of the exchange is to have young people from the Commonwealth interchange ideas, discuss issues of concern to them and get an appreciation of the different cultures that peoples in the Caribbean have. We today spoke to a couple young men who told us what their expectations are while in Jamaica.

Sheldon Lambey
My expectation while in Jamaica is to better off how to learn more about young people, and learn different things about other cultures and when I come back to Belize it's to go back to Punta Gorda and better off my community because the program that I am going to take is coming under community development. I think that when I come back from Jamaica I will be more equipped to develop my community.

Alliston Barrow
My expectation is to go to Jamaica to represent my community and my village within the youth initiative and meet other youths and learn about other cultures, different cultures.

Alfonso Noble
When you come back what is your hope?

Alliston Barrow
My hope is to come back to teach other youths about what I learn, and to better off my community with the best of my ability.

Yvonne Codd
We saw it necessary for Belize, young persons to participate in this event because we need to develop and further empower the knowledge of young persons in Belize to have them take it back to their communities, impart all the learning that they've received and the training that they will receive at this youth exchange.

The exchange program will run from July 25th to August 2nd.
