The Living with Hope AIDS benefit radio and telethon concert event happens tomorrow. It's a full day of activity, starting from 10 in the morning in the parking lot behind the Bliss Center with a roster of who's who in the music world ranging from the Gilharry Band, to the All-Star steel band, to Bobo Youth. The day's activities will be aired live on radio when it will be hosted by an equally luminous roster of media talents, including Jackie Woods, Mose Hyde and our very own Indira Craig. At 8:00 in the night, the activities move inside for a benefit concert featuring Honduran Paranda master Aurelio Martinez along with his mentor, the ageless Paul Nabor. He told us that it's an effort he's glad to be associated with.
Aurelio Martinez,
[Translation] “Belize is like a second home to me. I believe that I am here to serve. I am familiar with the problem of HIV in our communities. It is not only a problem of Belize or Central America; it is a problem of the entire world. We are all vulnerable to this illness. In one manner or other we fall to this disease I hope we find the cure for it.. In the meantime we will work to put an end to the disease. Aurelio Martinez is always trying to get to the hearts of our people.”
Paul Nabor,
“And I feel that everybody will come together to enjoy our voice and our playing.”
Alfonso Noble,
Now Nabi can we expect the same energy that you always give us?
Paul Nabor,
“Well I will try to do that if I can make it but the Good Lord is there so I think I will make it.”
The night concert will be carried live right here on Channel 7 and tickets for that event are also on sale. Overall, the effort has been gaining great steam, as the National AIDS Commission steams to its target of $100,000 for AIDS charities. Today organizer Roy Bowen told us that he expects a successful effort.
