The Salvation Army launched its Christmas Kettle Appeal today. But it’s not like other years where the army works towards a targeted dollar figure for donations. Major Errol Robateau, who is back in Belize, for the first time in 8 years told us that times are too hard to bee telling people how much the army wants, instead this year, it more like “what can you afford?”

Major Errol Robateau, Salvation Army
“We are not setting a target this year because we are in an economic situation right now but we are depending on the public to give to us. The more we receive is the more people we will help. What we have set the target for is the number of children we would like to help for this year which is a 1,000 and we would need between $7,000 to $10,000 to really cover that. What we will be having alongside the appeal is a toy drive because toys is a very expensive commodity and we are asking people to bring in new toys or used toys in good condition and these will be distributed along with the Christmas dinner for the children. It is a sacrifice but we do it because we do it for the Lord. We do it because God in his coming the angels you remember said peace on earth and good will to all men. And peace is something that we all need and I am not talking about just keeping quiet but I mean the spiritual peace which we have inside and also the goodwill towards men. And it is that goodwill we try to share on God’ s behalf in stretching a hand to the needy.”

The Salvation Army kettles are dispatched across Belize City.
