And the fires of protest will burn bright this weekend and not only in Port Loyola, as the man called Brother Asher hopes to mobilize an army of men for a demonstration tomorrow.
He is calling on all citizens of Belize to join him in his march against what he calls the hardships that the country is facing. With no active political backing or financial injection, Brother Asher is hoping that just the homegrown sincerity of his ambitious march will bring out the people, because as he puts it, the march is not for him, it is for all Belizeans because we are all suffering and its success will be our success.
Brother Asher, Demonstration Organizer
“It is not because of me but it is because of them. It is because of the situation that the country is in right now that we need to make a stand. It is not one individual responsibility but it is the responsibility of all citizens of Belize to come out and take part in something like this. It is for the betterment of our country and we need to make a stand.”
KS: So why should they come out?
Brother Asher,
“Well the reason as I said before is that anyone can sit down and talk but we have been talking so long and nothing happens. We need to let the government or the people in control know how serious we are serious about trying to make change within this country. So I am asking them again to come out and support this march.”
Saturday's demonstration will leave from in front of Saint John's Cathedral on Regent Street at 2 pm. The route will take it through downtown Belize City ending back on Regent Street.
