In recent weeks there have been calls to strike by the unions, a call for civil disobedience by the Opposition, and general calls for protest out on the streets. Tonight there is a new call, a call to prayer. Religious activist Margarita Quan is coordinating a non-denominational Belizean prayer 2004 service for Sunday afternoon at the Marion Jones Stadium. Quan told us why we should choose prayer over protest.
Margarita Quan, Coordinator
"Why not prayer? Is anything else working that you know? Today I was on the street corner giving out flyers to advise people about the national day of prayer and some of them, their comments weren't pleasant. They said prayer is not going to work but there is proof that prayer works. The Bible says the prayer of a righteous man avails that much. So when people decide God we are sorry and we repent, forgive us our sins and the Lord looks into your heart and see that there's true repentance, he's going to heal it. I believe that God wants to restore Belize. God wants us prosperous and he is calling the Belizean as a people, regardless of denomination and political affiliation, he wants Belize united. He wants to provide a great healing job on Belize."
The prayer service begins at 4 pm at the Marion Jones Stadium. Quan stresses it is open to all religious denominations. She has invited political leaders including the Prime Minister but adds it is not political.
