When no other organization is, the YWCA continues to be there for young ladies who would have fallen by the wayside were it not for this hard luck/high hopes finishing school. But, as in just about every other charitable endeavor, the spirit is willing, but the cash flow is low and the Y has taken a distinctly non-traditional approach to fundraising. Tomorrow, volunteers at the YWCA will take on a new initiative to get some money and it is through an old medium, an after work happy hour in a completely different setting.

Maureen Dawson, Y Volunteer
"The YWCA pool is in need of funds just for the general maintenance and upkeep of the pool. We've found out that we're not really getting the public support in terms of usage of the pool and what we want to do is we want to go on a massive campaign to remind people that the pool is here, the pool is here for use of the community and also we want to do some fundraising events in terms of entertainment and the first of its kind we are attempting is tomorrow night, its going to be a happy hour kind of thing. We're trying to target the working class people that would normally go out for happy hour, you know after the office everybody wants to know where the spot will be and so rather than going to your usual spot, what we want to do is pool those same happy hour people and let them come to the Y and be in a new environment and enjoy our event."
