At the end of May we reported on Belizean Walter Santos and Lynwen Griffith who formed part of a rescue response team heading to K2 in Northern Pakistan as part of a National Geographic and NASA support team. Now the team is well on its way to the summit of K-2.

Calls made by Santos via satellite phone describe the grueling journey in which he says that the expedition is faced with having to deal with fierce storms and collapsing ice walls making the journey next to impossible. While on the trek the rescue team has had to offer assistance to people who suffer from altitude sickness as well as other weather related illness that has so far claimed as many as 100 lives.

Temperatures on the trek range from 100 degrees Fahrenheit to -20 degrees Fahrenheit at night.
