They call themselves 'Belizean Entertainment' and with four words: 'be my sugar daddy,' they are on a fast track to becoming a national sensation. The song "sugar daddy" was released in 2003 and then re-released in September of this year as a reggaeton mix, which put it at the top of very popular playlist. Now it's set to go into the sound stratosphere with the release of a video for "Sugar Daddy" that they captured in San Pedro last month. The names behind the "Belizean Entertainment" brand are 'Flaco,' 'Beliceno,' and 'Benque T' and they stopped by our studios with the finished product on Friday. They told us that more than just catchy hooks, these three boys from Cayo can rap.
Amilcar Vasquez, Beliceno
"We do mostly what you would classify as urban music, which is rap, hip hop, dancehall, reggaeton, and some Latin. We chose urban music because we grew up with it. I grew up listening to Spanish dancehall from Panama and Rockers from Jamaica, and Hip-Hop from the U.S. so its all a mix of culture together with what we grew up with. Sugar Daddy was a well put together song. The whole idea, the whole basis, was it being written to be a commercial hit."
Philbert Leslie, Flaco
"We doing a dancehall flavor singing reggaeton. So we need to show the audience, the people, what we can produce, what we are capable of doing, so we came up with the idea to do the single for the Sugar Daddy which is in the Reggaeton style and that is what happened. We are trying to show people that we can work hard."
Reuben Chavarria, Benque T
"Right now we are in the studio working and Conchita right there to do another hit and we are ready to back her up and do another hit as usual."
Keith Swift,
You all don't feel the pressured to bring another hit like Sugar Daddy?
Reuben Chavarria,
"Yes in this business you always have to look for improvement, you won't stay on one level. We don't stay on one level, we made a video and that is the way we doing it right now."
The video is airing on Channel 7 and the album, which is an enhanced CD, is now in music stores.
