For a while there, the juniors were dominating the spotlight, but the secondary School's Festival of Arts has been revived and it will play this week. The opening ceremonies were held at the Institute of Creative Arts this morning and if we are to gauge by today's performances, those attending the festival will be in for a treat. Director of the Institute William Neal told us as much today.
William Neal, Director - ICA
"There has been a void for many years. The primary school festival is very strong and then you know the young people enter high school and there's absolutely nothing for them to do in terms of a structured festival to express and develop and showcase their talents. It is only natural that you we revive this portion of the Festival of Arts.
A lot of young people are channeling their energies positively and the artistic expression, whether it's social commentary or entertainment is a critical part as Ms. Armstrong highlighted today because the art builds us in so many ways to just be more expressive, not only in terms of showcasing our talents but becoming the full people that we are meant to be."
The Secondary School's Festival of Arts will run through to Friday of this week.
